Our
Story
Hi- I'm Carla! Founder & Consultant at Applica!
I’m a first-generation college graduate, born in the Dominican Republic and raised in the U.S., where education became my pathway forward. As someone who navigated unfamiliar academic and professional systems without a roadmap, I understand firsthand the uncertainties that come with each milestone—applications, interviews, and career transitions alike.

After earning my B.A. in Sociology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, I went on to complete my M.S. in Nonprofit Management at Columbia University. Today, I serve as a university officer at Columbia’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, partnering with students and faculty to design curriculam, streamline administrative processes, and foster an environment where every learner can thrive.

Growing up, I spent countless hours helping my mom and grandmother translate documents, fill out forms, and make important calls. Later, friends and peers turned to me for resume feedback, interview practice, and application strategies. Each success story reinforced my belief that personalized support can be transformative.

I founded APPLICA because I saw a critical gap: too many talented, hardworking individuals—especially those from first-gen backgrounds—lack tailored guidance to navigate the competitive world of higher education and professional advancement.
